“I’m Taking my Talents to Solana” - Prominent Ethereum Researcher Max Resnick Joins Anza

Max Resnick, a controversial Ethereum Researcher, has stepped into the Solana Ecosystem seeking greener pastures.

December 10, 2024 by Finn Miller

Outspoken Ethereum researcher Max Resnick is the latest figure to continue this year’s trend of projects, teams, and developers migrating to Solana.

On December 9, the former Head of Research at Consensys subsidiary Special Mechanisms Group announced via an 𝕏 post that he was ‘taking his talents to Solana”.

The Solana Community has welcomed Resnick with open arms, with Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko declaring the move will “accelerate the space for everyone”.

What will Resnick bring to Anza and why is Solana’s developer community so excited?

Who is Max Resnick?

Max Resnick is a controversial figure in Ethereum culture. Operating as Special Mechanisms Group’s Head of Research, Resnick is best known in crypto circles for his contrarian takes on Ethereum scaling.

While the bulk of the Ethereum community has channeled resources and effort to scaling the network through a litany Layer-2s, Resnick repeatedly championed directly scaling the Ethereum mainnet.

Resnick’s unpopular opinions made him a polarizing figure within the Ethereum community, with other Ethereum researchers like Ryan Berckmans insinuating that Resnick’s ideas are “beyond dissent, it’s sabotage.”

Resnick’s departure from the Ethereum ecosystem reinforces the common feelings of frustration expressed by key figures within its community.

This sentiment was echoed by Bored Ape Yacht Club co-founder garga.eth. After the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection announced its native memecoin, $PENGU, would be launched on Solana, Bored Ape Yacht Club founder remarked that Solana’s leadership community was far more welcoming of new experiments.

Solana Leaders Laud Anza’s New Recruit

Solana’s biggest names have received Resnick with warmth and excitement, claiming this talent acquisition will bolster Solana development and infrastructure research.

Fellow Solana co-founder Raj Gokal hinted that Resnick’s move to Solana could mark the beginning of a larger exodus of talent to the network.

Resnick’s departure represents a remarkable twist of irony. In the depths of the last crypto bear market, the Solana network was widely condemned as a failure. Social media commentators claimed only 75 developers were left within the ecosystem, claiming the network would never recover.

Just two years later, Solana boasts one of crypto’s most expansive and diverse onchain ecosystems with millions of active wallets.

Resnick’s First Order of Business

Resnick brings a wealth of experience in developing blockchain infrastructure. Joining Anza, one of Solana’s premier research and development firms, Resnick will begin his Solana journey prioritizing fee markets and consensus implementations.

Additionally, Resnick will assist Anza with the continued development and improvement of its validator client, Agave.
